Goals
One of the things that make us happy is to set goals and reach them. A sense of accomplishment is so important to our mental and emotional well-being. But we don’t often remember that in order for the accomplishment to be of lasting value it must be our own. While reaching a goal that someone else, whether of a family member or of “the world,” sets for us might give us a feeling short-term satisfaction; real joy, real satisfaction comes from reaching our own personal goals. It is true that at times these goals will be the same. But as we strive to make and reach goals that we feel others expect of us, we become disillusioned. If you are looking for direction in your life, which we are all doing to one degree or another, look to yourself. If you haven’t been doing this for a while, or perhaps ever, it will take some serious readjusting. But the results of your efforts will be rewarding beyond your imagination. Look deep inside yourself and decide what really makes you happy. What brings joy to your heart of hearts? What makes you feel alive? What strikes a chord so true within your own soul that is floods you with emotion that you may have forgotten?
